The Kyiv 2022 defense operation was the most important battle in Europe since World War II. If Kyiv had fallen after the attack began on February 24, 2022, Ukraine would have been lost and Putin would have continued.
The Ukrainians defeated the elite troops of the Russians, who seemed overwhelmingly powerful from the outset, in 38 days. Or, as they themselves say: in one month, one week, and one day. More precisely, the Russians‘ offensive resources were already exhausted on March 19, 2022, i.e., after 24 days.
After that, they were already in ignominious retreat. They had lost the
decisive battle – and intensified their terrorist bombardment of the civilian population.
This book is an analysis by the General Staff of Ukraine, compiled by the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine asked us to publish the book in German and English.
The target audience includes military personnel, politicians, and the interested public who want to understand what war means today.
Hanna Malyar, who wrote the foreword, was Deputy Minister of Defense at the time and spent more than half a year with the General Staff in the bunker.
